Ship.com was founded by Joe DiSorbo, an entrepreneur shaped by real operational experience long before he wrote a line of code. He didn’t just identify a market opportunity, he lived the complexity that brands face every day.
A Foundation Built in Business
Joe's view of commerce started early. Raised by a self-made businesswoman, he watched his mom build companies from the ground up.
School breaks were spent working inside an international direct sales company, where Joe rotated through departments: engineering, customer support, and later, post graduate, international operations. He even spent a summer working for his father, who ran the direct sales company’s entire shipping department. That experience tied it all together. He saw firsthand how complex and chaotic fulfillment could be, even for an established business with strong leadership.
It was a front-row seat to the disconnect between systems, teams, and customer expectations.
In those roles, Joe saw just how often shipping created friction. Missed deliveries. Clunky tools. A constant scramble to keep promises made to customers. The challenge wasn’t ambition, it was execution.
And Joe took that personally
Global Experience
After college, Joe took those lessons abroad. He led business initiatives and operations in Korea before embarking on his own in Silicon Valley and Singapore—three innovation hubs where he gained deep experience in software development, platform integration, and global commerce. These roles further exposed how fragmented and outdated shipping infrastructure was, especially when scaling across markets, tech stacks, and fulfillment strategies.
He saw the gap: a modern logistics solution that could serve both digital-first brands and the platforms that power them.
Lightbulb Moment in Mom’s Shipping Store
When his mother opened a local shipping store while he was in college, Joe spent a summer helping to optimize it. He saw the same problems he recognized from the corporate world—manual label entry, disconnected carrier accounts, and frustrated customers.
There wasn’t a tool that solved all of it. So he began to imagine one.
